MLD (MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE)
MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) massage is extremely specific in the amount of pressure that is used, the direction in which it is accomplished, and the strokes that are utilized to gently stretch the skin. It is an extremely scientific technique by which lymphatic vessels in swollen tissues are opened so that the fluid flows into the vessels and is routed along very specific pathways to return to the circulatory
system.

Duration: Sessions typically last between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated and your individual needs.
Cost Range: On average, a single session of MLD can range from $75 to $150.

COMPRESSION BANDAGING

Compression bandaging, also known as multi-layer bandaging, is used to reduce swelling (oedema) and maintain treatment progress. It is crucial to be bandaged by a certified Lymphoedema Practitioner who can provide guidance.
Specific bandages are required for Lymphedema. Your Lymphoedema Practitioner will use a combination of different types of bandages and materials such as foam or cotton.
Compression bandaging is often done along with Manual Lymph Drainage and time on a Lympha Compression pump. The bandaging helps sustain the reduction of fluid produced by MLD and the compression pump until the patient's next visit, providing continuous compression. Treatment combinations are always discussed with the patient.

WOUND CARE

Persistent wounds are often associated with lymphedema. Lymphoedema affects the integrity of the skin, often resulting in 'weeping' wounds. It's crucial that these wounds are taken care of - if left untreated, infections can occur, leading to other health complications. If a patient has wounds, wound care is a routine part of treatment at each visit.

COMPRESSION THERAPY
Compression wear is produced in a way to exert controlled, active graduated pressure along the leg, promoting venous circulation and return of blood to the heart.
By regularly wearing compression wear, you should feel an immediate beneficial effect – pain, swelling, heavy leg sensations and muscle stiffness are reduced.
Compression therapy is a common treatment to help improve blood flow in your lower legs. It usually involves the use of elastic stockings or wraps. The elastic provides compression on your legs, ankles and feet or upper body.
The types of compression garments we use for the therapy devices are:
Compression stockings; wraps; tights.
Compression armsleeves; gloves; gaunlet

TAPING FOR LYMPHOEDEMA
Kinesiology tape is a breathable, elastic, cotton fabric with a sticky backing. It used by our Lymphoedema Practitioner in the management of lymphoedema to improve the drainage of lymphatic fluid. The tape is applied to help channel the lymphatic fluid to a less congested area; it may also be used to soften hard tissue or as part of scar management.

PNEUMATIC COMPRESSION PUMP
A pneumatic compression pump is a device that delivers air to a garment worn over the affected part of the body to reduce swelling and pain. It is used for people with lymphedema/lipedema, venous insufficiency, and restless legs. This therapy has been proven to be an excellent and effective treatment that can be applied successfully at home. It can even be used over compression garments or dressings, such as in the case of leg ulcers, to aid in wound healing, if tolerated.
